What are common causes of electric fields in a home? – The EMF Guide Question of the Day

Man-made, non-native electric fields are most commonly caused by the following two sources:

01 – Energized Electrical Circuits

If you have electricity in your home, you’re going to have electric fields.

These can be reduced through the de-energization of the electrical circuits, but this can often cause inconvenience and shouldn’t be done unless the circuit breaker box and breakers have been examined and determined to be safe by a licensed electrician.

Remote cut-off switches are a great solution. These are installed by an electrician and let you turn off the circuits to your bedrooms at night, thereby reducing your exposure levels. Learn more about remote cut-off switches.

02 – Cords

Examples of these are light cords, plug-in strips, extension cords, plugged in computer peripherals and phone charger cords. These sources can be removed easily and we encourage people to do so.

The solution to this is to unplug the cords and don’t have them running near your sleeping areas or to purchase grounded/shielded versions.

In Conclusion

There are other sources of electric fields, as well, but these are the most common culprits if you have high levels of electric fields in your home.
